Working full time with a baby

My name is Dorota and I am a mum to nearly a one year old boy named Kuba.

Ever since Kuba turned six months I been working a full time job whilst looking after him at home. I had to come back early from my maternity leave due to personal reasons and I ended up with no childcare due to covid. Initially I feared how we would make it work but I soon realised that doing both at the same time is actually possible! I am a big believer in respective parenting and providing our kids with opportunities to be independent. This belief gave me with the key to work & life balance and because I went back to work so soon Kuba doesn’t know any different. He is able to entertain himself and he knows that sometimes mummy has a meeting and not able to play with him. He adapted really well and is enjoying his independent play. I also manage to feed him in between my meetings as we are still on our breastfeeding journey! My husband also plays a big part in helping to make this arrangement work and I couldn’t do this without his support.

Working and looking after a baby is hard work but I wouldn’t change it for anything else. It allowed me to progress my career whilst also not miss out on being with my baby. I learnt to embrace the change rather than resist it and I made it work for my family.

I am looking forward to getting to know other mamas and their perspective of working and looking after their little ones!
